Shortly before 5:15 on Monday, July 16, the off-duty officer spotted 40-year-old Juan Valdovinos allegedly leaving the cans in a grassy area on Sweetfield Circle near Cypress Street, prompting him to alert his fellow officers.

According to Yonkers Police Sgt. Jared Singer, the officer determined that Valdovinos was illegally dumping the cans, and notified the on-duty captain of the illegal dumping. Both he and the captain proceeded to arrest Valdovinos without further incident, Singer said.

Valdovinos was charged with violating a city ordinance and cited for prohibited dumping. He is due back in court on Friday to answer the charge.

Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated, “the Yonkers Police Department is committed to these proactive efforts in fighting illegal dumping in Yonkers, and ensuring our streets remain clean.  Even while off duty, our officers keep a vigilant eye out for illegal conduct of any kind.”
